“Be of service. Whether you make yourself available to a friend or co-worker, or you make time every month to do volunteer work, there is nothing that harvests more of a feeling of empowerment than being of service to someone in need” - Gillian Anderson

* The Anderson Daily staff, inspired by Gillian’s amazing work with these charities, hope to help somehow these great causes by give you information on their activities and projects, so we can reach people who can help by donating or with volunteer work.

We would appreciate if you take some time to learn about the different organizations that Gillian supports:

SA-YES: is an organization that provides guidance and support for marginalised young people making the transition from living in residential care homes to living responsibly and independently in South Africa. Gillian is a Co-Founder of SA-YES.

Neurofibromatosis: is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in the body at any time. This progressive disorder affects all races, all ethnic groups and both sexes equally. Gillian serves as NF Inc.’s Honorary Spokesperson and is a Patron of the Neurofibromatosis Association (UK). She works closely to these charities specially because her brother Aaron (who sadly passed away last year, 2011) was diagnosed with it in 1984.

USA National Doodle Day: As part of NF Awareness month, celebrity doodles are available for auction on eBay during May. These doodles have a very important aim: the funds they raise will benefit NF, Inc. Network, an organization dedicated to providing support to individuals and families affected by Neurofibromatosis. Gillian usually presents her own doodles to help the cause and she also asks other celebrities to help the cause, be sure to take a look at their gallery to see the fantastic doodles and of course, if you can.. bid on them on May!

She’s also involved with these organizations:

- Buskaid (x)

- Fezeka (x)

- Action for South Africa (x)

- Feminist Majority Foundation (x)

- The Trevor Project (x)
